The MDC Coin Awards will be opening soon. There will be six categories, including a new category celebrating the best collaboration, with winners being crowned at the Gala Dinner at the 2025 MDC.

From 16 November, the Japan Mint opened a special new exhibition titled ‘The Mint and War: Coinage and Manufacturing and Medal Making’ at the Mint Museum. The exhibition showcases coins and medals manufactured in wartime, including special ceramic coins. Mint : The special exhibition “The Mint and War I” has begun! (November 22, 2024)

After much anticipation, the Czech Mint has released its 2025 Issue Plan – which is great news to fans of their great coins and medals! The new year starts with a bang and as someone who was born in the Year of the Snake, I cannot help being drawn to the striking design coming to market in January. Christmas came early for the Perth Mint, after they discovered some buried treasure under the floor of the coin press room! During engineering works, cutting through the floor revealed a brick lined pit containing two large gears fabricated in 1896 – incredible. You need to see the size of these things! The Royal Australian Mint continued their strategic partnership with the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) by making and presenting the medals to 28 young leaders who were selected as Change-Makers by the AOC. These leaders met in the national capital to present ideas on the opportunities for Brisbane 2032 to embrace sustainability, benefits of sport, social inclusion and regional and remote areas. No rest leading into the Christmas season for the Mint of Poland, as they have just returned from attending and displaying at the Finance and Investment Forum in Warsaw where they were available to share information on bullion. Earlier in the month, the Mint of Poland moved into a new retail space to better meet customer needs. Whew! Gold and silver from a proven source. The Mint of Poland has opened a new company store in Poznań!

In another great example of collaboration, the US Mint through their support behind an extraordinary event held on Native American Day in the USA. Partnering with the American Indian Museum and the Smithsonian American Women’s History Museum, the US Mint honoured Zitkala-Sa, a member of the Yankton Dakota Sioux. The RCM helped someone celebrate an early Christmas, teaming up with renowned auctioneers Heffel Fine Art Auction House, to sell the 2024 10kg 99.99% gold coin featuring the theme – The Dance Screen (The Scream Too). Mintages do not get any more limited that this – a mintage of one – and the winning bid came in at just north of $1.5m CAD. From Brazil …

The Brazilian Mint recorded a notable achievement in relation to ESG. They placed 8th amongst 26 public companies evaluated and 11th in the ranking of Brazilian state-owned companies, recording an impressive 87.7% on the iESGO 2024 index. It is wonderful to see a sovereign mint such as the Casa da Moeda Do Brasil showing that manufacturers can be thoughtful and considerate environmentally responsible practitioners! From Slovakia …

Mincovna Kremnica has released its issuance plan for 2025, with some brilliant themes being announced. A topic close to my heart is being launched in January, with a series of 24 gold medals being released to depict the motifs of the 24 Slovak villages that make up the six wine routes in Slovakia.
